Slide Guy’s Mean Machine

So I was on campus today and spotted what at a distance looked like a cool, big sculpture in happy colors. So I spun around the traffic circle again and headed that way.

The closer I got, the weirder this sculpture looked. It was really some kind of huge machine, a cross between a catapult and an earth-moving machine. And it was armed with a serious-looking ray gun.

Needless to say, I was getting a little worried until I saw that Slide Guy was on the machine, checking things out.

I’ll sleep better tonight knowing Slide Guy 106 is on the case.

GIMP is not yet my friend but we’re getting along better. Could not figure out how to scale Slide Guy to fit, but I was happy that I took several shots from all angles to be sure I had one that would work.

  1. First, that sculpture in insane! Second, I had problems resizing my slide guy layer in GIMP too. I think I followed the steps found here:
    http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-layer-scale.html

If you discover a better way as you and GIMP become more familiar with each other, please let me know!

Your guy is having a much better time than mine, Melanie. He looks like he’s enjoying his cameo in the music video. That was such an inspired idea!

Thanks so much for the link on scaling. I have to confess that CogDog’s plain English approach worked really well for me. When I started reading about interpolation in your link, my mind kind of shut down. Leads me to think that maybe tutorials could have levels of explanation — from mostly “how -to” step by step to a little more detail for understanding. Sort of a sliding scale and you slide to match your level of comprehension.

      Thanks again.

  2. Double click the scale tool, but rather than punching numbers in, you can click and drag inside the box to change the size (or click/drag the corner/edge boxes)- if you click and drag the center bulls-eye, you can drag him around.

The trick is you have to find that floating scale dialog box and click the “Scale” button to make it stick.

Thank you! I got it. Of course, enlarging the Slide Guy necessitated replacing a thumb. So I got to practice with the paint tool. I’ll post again to share before and after.
